Was I wrong about Matt Gaetz?

Matt Gaetz withdrawal makes me believe the GOP may be weak.

No, it's the world that is wrong.

Recently, I wrote an article about how I thought Donald Trump nominated Matt Gaetz to make the rest of his party would go along with his nonsense.

The Gaetz Gambit
Donald Trump nominated Matt Gaetz because he is bad.

Since I published that Matt Gaetz has announced that he will be withdrawing himself from consideration for the Attorney General position.

Gaetz, in a post on X, says he decided this following "excellent meetings with Senators," who conveyed to him that his nomination would lead to a "needlessly protracted Washington scuffle."

What this means, based on reporting from The Bulwark, is Trump called Matt Gaetz and told him, "You don't have the votes; these senators are not moving." This comes several days after reporting that Trump was “heavily working the phones” to drum up support for Gaetz.
